Night Two: Chaos! Then calm...
So the room confinement didn’t go over very well.  Now we have Korean hall monitors roaming about, doing the occasional room checks.  Still, we go out, mingle, and fight for reception on the one wi-fi signal that actually works in this entire building.  All the other internet connections mysteriously stopped working today and they’ve been extremely apathetic about fixing it.  ”We...

Day Two: Isolation
Apparently, we’re now being moved to individual rooms for confinement 24/7 with the exception of bathroom breaks.  I’m told there are going to be police in the hallways.   A lot of angry mumbling about this, as people wouldn’t have no internet access or ways to communicate with friends and family, let alone exercise.

Day Two: School closures
We were just told over the P.A. system that every person we’ve come into contact with by name has been, or is in the process of being quarantined.  It’s nice to see that they’re taking steps to retrace our routes and being extra cautious.  Obviously, since some of us have been all the way to Busan and back, exposure is a great concern.  I’m guessing that it’s just a...

Day Two: Q & A
So my inbox has suddenly become flooded with emails in the last twelve hours.  I’m glad people are finding the blog amusing and/or interesting.  My intention starting it is twofold.  First, I wanted to simply to give everyone an inside look at this amusing situation as it develops and save having to write multiple emails to family and friends.  Secondly, to pass the bloody time!...

Day Two: KT picks up (some of) the story
The Korea Times posted an article about the situation, but still no mention of the 50 of us in quarantine.  I think we’re South Korea’s dirty little secret :-) http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/nation/2009/05/113_45605.html In other news, lunch is one the way!  Our choices were: Chicken tender with rice, Spaghetti with red or white sauce.  Salad was rumored to be available,...

Day Two: Interwebs going down(?)
Just a quick update, a bunch of the computers here at the facility have stopped being able to get on-line as of Monday.  We were told they’re possibly sending a repair technician to work on it.  None of the actual desktop computers are able to get online, however we’re still able to pick up some wifi signals from some of the lecture rooms.  Also, we moved a router closer to one of the...

Day Two: Locked in.
Just went out to have a cigarette.  People were unhappy because they locked the side doors to the building.   Apparently my roommate got locked out last night and went on quite an adventure. Others are annoyed about these locks being put in place because it’s going to be a long week if we can’t go out onto the roof to exercise and jog.

Day Two: Good morning, GOOD morning!
Awoke at ten AM to the thumping of the doctors on the door.  Two very fluent (and cute) Korean doctors came in, took the temperatures of all four of us in Room 405.  All of us were in a good range, 36.5 for myself.  They also had us fill out forms: name, passport number, nationality date of birth, etc.  It’s nice to see some sort of information gathering going on now. The mood’s still...

Night One: Good Night...
Most have gone to bed.  A few still play guitar in the common rooms or watch the US news to see if word has gotten out.  Everything’s quiet, and if it weren’t for the rope out front, it’s seem like a nice retreat to a mountain training facility. Medical people came around an hour or so ago, checking temperatures.  I was a lovely 36.8 which I’m told is good.  No coughing,...

Night One: Makin' news
More blurbs trickling in courtesy of news.google.com http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=471054&publicationSubCategoryId=200 What’s rather interesting is that it says nothing about the merry band of 50 or so US, Canadians, Australians, Koreans, etc., all in the Seocho-dong quarantine facility together where I’m writing this from. On another note, I was informed that...

Night One: Mood: Confused.
We were told three interesting things over the intercom tonight. They would be taping up the doors so we can’t go outside to exercise or smoke.  There is a chance we are going to be moved to another location soon. We have to stay Seven Days AFTER the most recent person is taken to a hospital.  For example: Steve gets sick on Day 5, we have to stay 7 days plus that.  Which means, we could...

Day One: Air supplies!
My awesome friend P——-, and his amazing cousins G—- and R—- smuggled a bunch of cigarettes as well as an Xbox 360 and some super fun sodas by stuffing them into a bag full of clothes and bringing them by.  They handed them off to super secret health lady who in turned passed them to us. Foreigners: 1 Quarantine: 0  Also, they took lots of pictures of us.  I think they...

U.S. Embassyfail
So last night we called the U.S. Embassy just to inform them of the situation.  We weren’t asking for help or anything, but just because we felt they should know that, I dunno…30+ OF THEIR CITIZENS ARE BEING DETAINED!  It’s not like we’re worried the Korean Health Ministry of Medicine for Make Healthy of Koreans is going to take us out in the woods, shoot us in the back of...
